"This second release consists of one long piece, which was composed for the 1st Symposium for Acoustic Ecology, which took place at Corfu in December 2007. Unprocessed recordings from several fields narrate a sonic story about the dominance of artificial sounds to natural ones. (sample)
thanks to eri for the foto and foto development.
The gradual masking of physical sounds by ongoing noise, as a result of the civilization of machines and contemporary societies, is the starting point for the idea and structure of this piece. The piece devotes its first half to physical sounds from several sound environments. In the second part machine sounds appear, setting up a discourse with the physical ones. The human activity is the key for the transition between these two different worlds (the “epitaph” band works like a lament for a smothered nature). The sound mixing was realized in such a way as to demonstrate the continuous existence and intrusion of artificial sounds into the natural soundscape. The used sounds were recorded at Kayiafas beach (one year before its destruction by fire), at the area of Kipriadou of Patissia, at the city of Corfu, and at Axaravi of Corfu by friends and me."
