Philadelphia based guitarist Matt Geary has delivered a beautiful set of songs here on 'Owl's Lament' that are incredibly rich in texture and heavy on the thumbs! The man can pick a guitar. The opening track "Relentless Intrusion" features a 12 string and violin that wind and bend with a haunting shimmer that will most certainly pause your thoughts whether you like it or not. This album is the equivalent to forgetting you've been driving for the last 20 miles. It feels like a meditation and love letter to the guitar by a young artist clearly in the throes.
Happy and ready to welcome a new generation of folks carrying the Fahey Takoma torch. I know - every 10 to 15 years there seems to be a new crop who fall in love with this music. Can we blame them? It feels so good. This music creates wonder and hope. Two things in short supply at the moment. Let's be grateful that old habits die hard.
Recorded, mixed, and co-produced by Dave Klyman at Retro City Studios in Philadelphia, PA. Mastered by Matt Weed.
Violin and Setar on “Relentless Intrusion” by Anni Movsisyan.
All guitar, drones, and organs performed by Matthew Geary.
Eternal thanks and gratitude to my family, David Grossman, Jesse Sheppard, Rob Mohan, D. West, Mike Horn, Ethan Hosta, Jonathan Jasperse, and anyone that’s lent a helping hand over the years.
